  He believes important subjects should be explained in plain English, with compassion, balance, and respect for the reader.  His background includes being an executive chef, entrepreneur, researcher, inventor, family caregiver, and someone who has spent years trying to understand complex systems — health, mental health, energy, civic issues, and history.
  
  Jim is proud to come from a family of elected officials and public service.  This legacy is what he has tried to embed into his careers.  His work is shaped by curiosity, life experience, and a desire to help readers feel better informed.
  
  Jim is married to Theresa, with four kids from previous marriages: Jonathan, Derek, Stephanie, and Jennifer.  They continue to serve as his inspiration for life, and to always strive to build a better life for all.
